In this week's episode of The Unsidelined Life, I had the pleasure of reconnecting with my college volleyball teammate and dear friend, Erin Borini. Our paths first crossed on the volleyball court at Colorado State University, where we played on the same team. Years later, life has taken us on different journeys, but our connection remains strong, rooted in shared experiences and faith.

As one of the founders of Skin Perfect Medical, a successful aesthetic medicine and anti-aging business, Erin has navigated the complexities of divorce, entrepreneurship, and personal growth. She is an inspiration for women looking to redefine themselves and make a positive impact on the world around them.

We'll explore the lessons from our conversation, focusing on embracing opportunities, pursuing passions, and finding strength in faith. Join us as we discuss the importance of self-discipline, the power of sharing our stories, and the beauty of reinvention at any stage of life.

Embracing Your God-Given Gifts

We are all children of God, and because of that, it is essential that we understand the importance of recognizing and embracing our God-given gifts. Erin's example of going from college athlete to successful business owner illustrates the power of acknowledging our unique talents and using them to make a positive impact on the world.

After graduating from college, she initially pursued a career in internal medicine, working in underserved areas. One day, she realized that her fulfillment came from helping people feel and look their best. This led her to reflect on her passions and skills, ultimately guiding her towards the field of aesthetic medicine.

By embracing her interest in health, beauty, and helping people feel confident, Erin found a way to combine her medical background with her desire to help others feel their best. This shift in her career path demonstrates the importance of being open to new opportunities and not being afraid to pivot when we feel called to do so. Erin's story reminds us that our gifts and passions are often clues to our true calling, and it's up to us to listen and act on them.

The Power of Self-Discipline

When achieving personal and professional goals, self-discipline cannot be overlooked. This concept, deeply rooted in her Christian faith, has been a guiding principle in various aspects of her life. By dedicating herself to her goals and choosing to be fit and eat healthy, Erin not only transformed her body but also discovered a newfound sense of confidence and empowerment.

The lessons learned from her fitness journey translated into other areas of her life, particularly in her approach to business and personal growth. Erin views self-discipline as a form of self-love, emphasizing that caring for ourselves and our environment is an essential aspect of living out our faith. This perspective challenges us to consider how we can apply self-discipline in our own lives to honor our bodies, minds, and spirits.

Reinvention and Pursuing Passions

Erin's experiences emphasize the idea that it's never too late to reinvent ourselves and pursue our passions. Her transition from a career in internal medicine to founding a successful aesthetic medicine business demonstrates the possibilities that open up when we're willing to take risks and apply ourselves to what we are passionate about.

In discussing her business, Erin emphasized the importance of finding purpose in our work. For her, Skin Perfect Medical isn't just about providing cosmetic treatments; it's about helping people feel confident and empowered. This alignment of personal values with professional pursuits has allowed Erin to find fulfillment and make a positive impact on her clients' lives.

Erin's experience encourages us to consider our own passions and how we might incorporate them into our lives and careers. It reminds us that our roles as mothers, professionals, or community members don't have to be mutually exclusive. Instead, we can find ways to integrate our various interests and talents to create a life that feels authentic and purposeful.

The Power of Sharing Your Story

By opening up about your struggles, your journey, and your path, Erin has not only found healing for herself but has also inspired and encouraged others facing similar challenges.

Sharing our stories allows us to:

  • Connect with others who may be going through similar experiences
  • Find support and encouragement when we need it most
  • Inspire others by demonstrating resilience and growth
  • Break down stigmas and misconceptions about divorce, mental health, and personal struggles
  • Strengthen our faith community by being vulnerable and authentic

As we reflect on Erin's journey and the lessons we've explored, I encourage you to consider your own story. What challenges have you faced? What triumphs have you experienced? How has your faith guided you through difficult times?

Your story has the power to impact others in ways you may never fully realize. By choosing to open up and share your experiences as appropriate, you create opportunities for connection, healing, and growth – not just for yourself but for those around you.

So, take a moment to reflect on your journey. Consider the people in your life who might benefit from hearing about your experiences. Whether it's through a conversation with a friend, sharing in a small group, or even writing about your experiences, find a way to let your story be heard.

Your story matters. Your struggles, your triumphs, and your faith journey can be a beacon of hope for someone else, and others can reach out to help you in return. Don't keep it to yourself – share it, and watch how God can use your experiences to touch the lives of others.
